Our community map was printed in summer of 2008 and is available free of charge from the Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce. If you prefer, we will mail a copy upon receipt of a nominal fee to cover postage and handling. How do I contact the Park and Rec Department? In Marshall, Park and Rec is called Community Services. The average annual wind speed on the Buffalo Ridge near Marshall is 16.5 miles per hour.......Chicago only averages 10.4! Is finding daycare difficult? What the heck is rolle bolle? Rolle Bolle is a Belgian sport that is a cross between curling and horseshoes. Our neighboring city of Ghent considers itself to be the Rolle Bolle Capital of America, and Marshall hosts both a summer and winter Rolle Bolle tournament that draws contestants from across the United States, Canada and Belgium. What's happening on campus? More than you can imagine! A wide variety of organizations at Southwest Minnesota State University sponsor events, activities, lecture series and workshops open to the residents of Marshall. Many are free and open to the public, while others require a small admission charge. Residents can watch high caliber athletic competition at the NCAA Division II level, see outstanding national entertainers, and attend student produced plays and concerts. The MnSCU Board of Trustees recently approved a name change for Southwest State University. The new name is Southwest Minnesota State University. Southwest State asked to return 'Minnesota' to the name of the university, which was founded as Southwest Minnesota State College in 1967. The word 'Minnesota' was removed from the name in 1975 at the same time as the change from college to university designation. The name change took effect on July 1, 2003. How are your schools? Minnesotans--- students, parents, business people and government leaders alike--- value education and recognize its benefits. Minnesota has a high-school graduation rate of more than 89 percent, the highest among the 50 states --- while Marshall boasts a rate of over 99%!. Locally, our school district prides itself on innovation and student achievement. And with open enrollment and post-secondary enrollment options, your choices are open. How's the shopping? Our downtown is filled with quaint shops reminiscent of the main street of yesteryear, yet several national discount chains are proud to call Marshall home as well.
